The Christmas pickle is a lesser-known Christmas tradition for Americans. A Christmas tree decoration in the shape of a pickle is hidden on a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve after the kiddos go to bed. On Christmas morning, the first person to find the pickle on the tree receives an extra present, good fortune in the new year, or just the joy of finding the pickle. It's your new tradition - you decide.

This takes the tradition a little further by including a story to read to the kids before bed on Christmas Eve and a plush they can with them when they go to bed. Reading is a fantastic way to bond with kids, the rhyming book is fun, and kids love plushies. My kids want me to read the book all the time and constantly have Pickle with them ;)

Read the story on Christmas eve and prepare your kid(s) to find the pickle on the tree in the morning. Whoever finds the pickle first is rewarded with good luck in the new year. Here are just a few possible rewards for the pickle finder:
     • The finder gets to open the first present
     • The finder can get an extra small gift/treat
     • The finder can choose who gets to open the first gift
     • The finder gets to hide the pickle for the next person to find it
     • The finder gets... I'd love to hear some of your ideas!

Whether you have one or ten kids, this is just as fun. If you want, you can even time how long it takes to find the pickle. My kids love it when I time them doing things, even when we don't know what the "record" was :)
